2015 In Review

I reviewed my year using my 2014 New Year's Resolution, last year, although, I didn't publish it until February...I know, what took me so long?  2015 was a good year.  Many good things happened.

1- Lose the belly.  Get into a respectable BMI (lose weight, exercise, and watch what I eat).

Okay.  So this was probably the only resolution that I hardly worked on.  I found a work out that I liked, but didn't follow through with it the whole year.  I don't want to say it, but I was probably like those people who make a goal to start in January, start, and then stop after three months of successful training.  I'll just have to commit to working on my figure.

I have a belly, it is true, but if I work on it, hopefully I'll be able to lose it.

2- Read my scriptures everyday.

Thanks mostly to BofM365 on Instagram, I was able to read through the whole Book of Mormon everyday this year.  I found out about BofM365 while I was watching a seminar on social media given at BYU for Education Week by Elder David A. Bednar.  I am the first person to pioneer smart phone technology.  This talk inspired me to use social media for good to #sweeptheearth with the gospel of Jesus Christ.  I thought reading my scriptures was a good idea in being a witness of Jesus Christ.

3- Continue writing in my journal everyday.

I love journal writing.  It is something that I am good at doing.  I write down a whole page every day (if I'm not too tired, or on the brink of keeling over).  Sometimes I have even written more than one page depending on how interesting the day has gotten.  Here's to more days recorded.

4- Go to the temple/ Work on genealogy weekly.

I have done my best to come to the temple on ward temple nights, which is the 1st and 2nd Wednesday every month.  And, with the purchase of my newest laptop, I have done a lot of names.  In total, I have indexed 1598 names.  My new goal is 3000 names by the end of the year.  That is roughly 10 records a day.  I've have learned to love indexing Obituaries and Birth and Death records (mostly of Cook County Illinois).  I was able to help one person (Ally Villaruel) learn how to do indexing and I helped as best I could on indexing nights.

I love to see (and go to) the temple.  There are so many blessings that come from temple attendance.  If we could just devote a day a month to go, humanity would seem the less bleaker.  I'm so happy to go twice a month.  First, endowments: being taught from God on high.  Second, baptisms and confirmations.  Of the two days, this one causes me to be the most anxious.  Why?  Because, we are in need of endowed brethren to perform the saving ordinances.  Seven is the magical number, and as Elder's Quorum President, I am partly in charge of this day's temple attendance.

This new year, I am looking to make headway in finding and doing ordinances for names of MY OWN family members.  I have to start caring enough to find.  That has always been an aspect in which I lacked.  I've always have been afraid to be a leader in Family History because I have not really helped search for any of the names that I took to the temple.  Well, this year, I am expecting that to change.  Family is important...living and the dead.

5- Work on praying morning and night.

I definitely still need to work on praying in the morning.  Night time -no problem.  Day time - problem.  I will do well this next year.

6- Work 4-5 days a week.

Accomplished.  Some times I was only able to work 3 days, but for the most part, I did good at this resolution.  I have a new goal of working the full five days a week as a sub (if I continue subbing), so hopefully I can accomplish this goal.  I am in need of the money that comes from the work though, so it will be some good motivation to work everyday.  Let's be honest, I've been lazy, in that, since I don't have to work every day of the week, I don't.  But I want that to change.  If Mom can do it, so can I.

7- Continue working hard at my calling/s.

I am an Elder's Quorum President.  It is a humbling calling.  I have the responsibility of caring for everyone in our designated area.  I am an example, whether I like it or not.  Fortunately, I am not alone.  I have people that back me up: Stake Presidency, Bishopric, counselors, even Relief Society President.  I hope that I can say that people can look to me for guidance and example.  It isn't an easy task to accomplish.  However, with the help of all these, the job will get done.  I don't know how long I will be President, but for however long I am, I will do my best in my calling.  Most importantly, I can look to Christ for the guidance necessary to do my callings.  He is always there.

8- Go on dates (as much as I can) [previous goal was weekly, but that is difficult to accomplish]

Wow.  Let's just say that 2015 has been better than I have anticipated.  I have had my ups and downs of likes but things are starting to work out.  I hope that things continue to work out for me from now on in this category.

9- Practice piano and guitar (with Jacob if at all possible)

Being good at the piano and guitar has always been a major blessing.  Music can soothe and inspire greatness, while others can excite.  Jacob has gotten sooo good at playing the Ukelele. I love it.

10- Be more outgoing (activities, socialize, party).

I have performed stellarly at this resolution.  Most of it is due to the fact that I am the Elder's Quorum President, and you know what, I'm glad for the person my calling has made me.  I actually enjoy walking around the chapel right before church starts and introducing myself to people I don't know or saying hi to those that I do.  I do the same before Priesthood 3rd hour.  In fact, if there are people that I don't know in my Elder's Quorum, I make it a point to greet them and welcome them.

Without the calling, I don't think I'd know half of the people that I know in the ward, and that is another blessing.  There are so many people that I am glad to know.  It is difficult, too, being in such a dynamic ward.  A lot of  the members are there for only so long.  Unfortunately, people you are attached to grow, and find new places to spread their wings.  Bigger and Better things are in store for all of us.

11- Be a good example to my siblings.

Like I said last year: I live for my brother and sisters.  I do my best to be a good example.  I'd like to say that it is working out.

12- And, like last year, don’t go crazy.  You’re doing fine.

Another good year, thankfully.  I have just had to watch myself.  I know I have people that love me and are prepared to take care of me, and for that I am lucky.

So, this is my 2015 report.  All in all, good year and I hope to make 2016 an even better year.
