What I'm Good At
So, as I was thinking about what I could write in my second blog post, nothing came to mind, except that even though I'm a beginner at writing a blog and therefore, not that good, I am good at other things.
For example, I'm great at keeping a journal. Word to the wise, if you have an electronic form of writing in a journal, make sure you have it backed up to something other than your hard drive. I'm only saying so because during my freshman year of college, I kept a journal on OneNote. I loved it because I could paste pictures and do other things. Well, as you should know, stuff added to OneNote only gets saved to the computer. Over the Summer, my laptop died and later it was stolen. So there went my whole freshman year. Not even a new battery could restore my computer to what it was.
On my mission I kept a faithful two year (15 months) journal. I wrote in it every night without fail. I had a large 8 by 11 journal. I found that when I returned home from my mission that it was harder to keep a journal because I couldn't fill it all. Recently (June 6, 2012) I got a nice, smaller journal and I've filled it all the way with entries everyday since then. I take pride in my journal.
What else am I good at..., well...
I'm a decent tennis player. Since I've been on vacation here in Cali, I've gone to play tennis with my brother and sometimes my dad multiple times. In fact, when asked what I thought was the best thing I did this Summer in Sis. Gifford's class, I said playing tennis with my brother Jacob. I've only beat him once, and when I did I got on my knees, like pro tennis players and cried out for joy. Jacob was, of course, a little bit frustrated. And since that game I've started to get frustrated every time I lose, because I know I can do better.
I love volleyball, almost as much as I love tennis. I'm willing to play them at any time. I'm not bad at both. Soccer was also a passion that I had which I long since grown out of. The thing with soccer is you have to endure running miles. You have to be really fit. Otherwise you get long-winded and you lose stamina. On my mission, my companion (Elder Delgado) and I would go to the trailer court called Barjac and play soccer. Boy, those were trying times.
Oh, I also did track and field during high school. It is apparent when you see my many usernames which go something like this: juancito400m. I ran the 400m race in high school. My best time ever was 57 seconds. I also did the 4x400m. That was fun. What was even more fun was doing the pole vault. It was definitely a time to get daring, and I had a lot of close calls. I'm lucky I didn't bang my head that much. Lastly, I did cross country running. That was hard endurance practicing.
On my mission, I really got into raquetball. I'll just say that it was dangerously fun.
I'm also good at attending the temple. I've been more than a hundred times and each time things stand out. I've been lucky to have my sister, Briana, come to the temple with me. Or rather, I'm going to the temple with her. I've always felt that I had a better experience when I'm there with someone I know. Oh man, I'm so excited!!! On Thursday, Briana and I are going to attend a session at the San Diego Temple. If it was the custom for a girl to ask a boy where they would get married, my immediate answer would be, a resounding, the SAN DIEGO TEMPLE. Unfortunately, such is not the case. Why would I choose the San Diego temple over all temples? Because it is totally awesome. It looks like a castle from the out side. And when you are inside you can't help but to stand in awe at the amazing beauty. The Celestial Room is wonderful; heavenly even. It's just a neat place to be.
I'm musically talented. I love music. My last two callings in the Singles Ward in Utah were Sacrament Meeting Pianist and Choir Director. Oh, when I was choir director, I had so much fun. Holding weekly practices in the house across the way were extremely fun, mostly because I had a talented bunch of choir members. I even had a music spiritual thought, which was fun. I taught myself how to play the piano when I was in 9th grade, or when I was 14. I was given instruction on the basics and I learned from there. I played the piano for seminary along with Natalie Weber. Ever since then I have gained a growing love for music, having gone through the rest of high school in a choir, to learning how to play the guitar. Music is fun. I love it with all my heart.
So, there you go. I am good at things. There is still time for me to love other things, blogs included.
